Prevention and good first aid are key to reducing the number of burns and scalds occurring in the UK every single day.
A burn injury is for life. The scars are physical as well as psychological and can present life-long challenges for the individual and their families.
Children and the elderly are the most vulnerable, and the majority of burn injuries occur as a result of an accident that could easily have been prevented.
Kitchen safety is key to preventing the many types of burns injuries seen in children and adults. The prevention of scalds and burn injuries is important, but please remember that if an accident should occur, apply COOL running water for 20 minutes, CALL for help and COVER the burn wound loosely with cling film – this leads to better long-term outcomes for the patient.
Dan’s Fund For Burns and Adult Burn Support UK are supporting the Children’s Burns Trust in raising awareness on National Burn Awareness Day to help reduce the number of burn injuries occurring in adults and children every year. #BeBurnsAware

Participate in PhD research conducted by Kieran Moulton at the University of the West of England, Bristol is looking at how people use decorative tattooing to either camouflage or decorate their scars.
Kieran is looking to interview people to find out their reasons for using tattooing in this way and what their experiences were.
Using tattooing with scars has become increasingly popular in recent years and the purpose of this research is to add to current knowledge.
If you would like to know more about this study or think that you may be interested in participating, please contact Kieran.moulton@uwe.ac.uk for more information.
