Laser treatment can help improve a number of symptoms resulting from scars. It has been shown in studies that pulsed dye laser can be used to reduce redness and itch of immature scars. Fractionated and ablative lasers, such as Erbium:YAG or carbon dioxide, can be used to reduce bulk, increase elasticity and improve texture or appearance of the scarring. It is becoming more common that a combination of these lasers is used over a course of treatment as the scar matures. Within the NHS, laser treatment for burn scars is available and the Burn Therapist can advise on suitable treatment.
