The LSEBN serves a population of around 21 million people, living in London, the East of England, Kent, Surrey and Sussex, Thames Valley and Wessex. It is one of four Networks for burn care services across England and Wales. The network consists of four hospitals providing care for complex burn injuries – two burn centres and two burn units.
Burn Centre: This level of in-patient burn care is for the highest level of injury complexity and offers a separately staffed, geographically discrete ward. The facilities are up to highest level of critical care and have immediate operating theatre access.
Burn Unit: This level of in-patient burn care is for the moderate level of injury complexity and offers a separately staffed, discrete ward.
Burn Facility: This level of in-patient burn care equates to a standard plastic surgical ward for the care of non-complex burn injuries.
Hospitals providing adult burn care in LSEBN:
Burn Services in England and Wales have a multidisciplinary team including burn surgeons, burn nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists or psychotherapists & dietitians. Micro-needling, camouflage service and medical tattooing is offered in some, but not all, burn services.
